Importance of an Official Registry

The Entlebucher is still classified as a rare breed; it is still coming back from being nearly extinct (see history on NEMDA website). Although rare, the Entlebucher breed is becoming more popular in the world but the blood lines are still narrow and there are some health problems. We feel that we have an obligation to educate the public as much as possible about the breed. We feel strongly that the Entlebucher should not be AKC recognized until the health issues and narrow blood line issues have been resolved. Please read this AKC article as to the reasoning of this strategy. Also some people have been confused about the FSS (paperwork trail for rare breeds sponsored by the AKC) being a registry for the Entlebuchers. Please read this NEMDA history for clarification on proper registration.

There are plenty of other avenues besides the AKC where you can show your dogs, do agility, herding, flyball, etc. Remember Entlebuchers like doing rather than just showing, so obedience, agility and other activities are more enjoyable for them. You can still get titles on your dogs through local and national groups. And there is always your local breed club that hosts events and gives awards.
